BONSAI BOUND/UNBOUND

Most of these images come from the amazing collection of bonsai trees at the U.S. National Arboretum’s National Bonsai and Penjing Collection in Washington, D.C. This collection began in 1976 with a gift from the Japanese government to the United States of 53 Bonsai trees.

The images  in this gallery are part of a growing collection of bonsai tree photographss, removed first from their background and then, when you click on the image of a potted tree, in some cases also from their pots. (“Bonsai” literally means “tree in pot”).
