HOW I WORK WITH CLIENTS

APPROACH

Therapy is a partnership. I am a deep listener, committed to accompanying my clients as they ride the sometimes smooth, sometimes roller-coaster-like pathways of their lives. I sit beside them, a true companion on their trip for as long as they wish me to be their therapist. I feel—and generate—a sense of deep acceptance, as if I am extending a force field around my clients, providing a taste of what it is like to be loved, seen, protected, and empowered.

In the therapeutic relationship, I foster a dynamic, supportive environment in which my clients can deal creatively with present challenges, free themselves from self-defeating patterns, heal old wounds, retrieve lost parts of themselves, and grow into the fullest versions of themselves.

TECHNIQUES

A mentor once told me that “theory and technique are what you use until the real therapist shows up.” But theory and technique are also the tools of the trade. My practice is informed by the theories and techniques of person-centered, solution-focused, Focusing-oriented, Gestalt, and Buddhist psychotherapy. Weaving these ways of seeing together, and inventing new tools as the need arises, I mirror each client’s truest self and help him or her discover how to fully live it.
