One of the classic questions therapists are taught to ask clients, when they show up for their first session, is “What brings you here today?”
I’ve asked this question thousands of time over the course of my career, and not only during first sessions. This question is useful any time during the coaching or counseling process because it prompts people to check in with themselves and see how to use the session to explore what they most need to talk about.
It’s not just an icebreaker, it’s the first step toward a true collaboration.
In the same spirit of collaboration, I’d like to ask you the same question.
You signed up for the Art of Balance email list, you made it through the “onboarding” video sequence, and here you are now, in the next-to-last step of this introduction to the Art of Balance system.
What brings you here today?
- What attracted you to the Art of Balance email list?
- What problems or issues do you struggle with?
- How can I help?
- What’s interested you, so far, in the Art of Balance videos?
- What bored you to tears or made your eyes glaze over?
- What would you like to see more of?
- What have you taken away from these emails so far?
But if you’d like to respond in the comments area of the blog post, or email me privately, that would be equally good.
Your feedback is extremely important to me. It helps me help you, and helping you helps others, too.
Thanks for hanging in with me and the Art of Balance system. I hope to hear from you soon.
Next up: The gift!
